Our Whitepaper Update
When the algorithm browses: why websites have to work for AI agents too
For years a simple law applied in digital marketing: whoever is at the top of Google wins customers and revenue. That certainty has been crumbling for some time. Since Google I/O in May 2026 at the latest, it is clear that the rules of the game are changing fundamentally. The reason is autonomous AI systems such as Google’s Gemini Spark, which search the web on behalf of real users, compare offers and make decisions.
For companies that means a radical rethink. Your own website no longer has to appeal only to human visitors, but has to convince technical gatekeepers. Anyone who is not understood by the new AI agents, or is technically blocked, no longer appears in the customer’s shortlist at all. To make this shift tangible, we have updated our AI whitepaper and brought it fully up to date after Google I/O 2026.
Plain language instead of empty phrases
For a digital assistant to be able to use content, uncompromising clarity is needed. Convoluted sentences and interchangeable advertising copy fail completely in the new search reality. People scan texts on the web in order to find answers quickly. AI models basically do something similar: they break pages down into units of meaning and assess their information content. That means: what is prepared in an easily understandable way for the human reader can also be analysed precisely by an AI and used as a trustworthy source.
The architecture decides
A smart design alone is no longer enough. Far more important is a logical content system, for instance through the proven hub-and-spoke principle. A clear structure with unambiguous subheadings and decentralised FAQ modules helps systems to grasp the thematic context immediately.
In e-commerce and for local service providers in particular, the focus is shifting. When AI agents compare live prices, availability or locations, they pull this information directly from databases. A flawlessly maintained Google Merchant Center and clean company profiles therefore become mandatory for digital success.
Code becomes a sales channel
The technology behind it is also becoming strategically decisive. Modern AI agents use websites like real people. They navigate through the code independently, analyse the DOM structure and read out the accessibility tree in order to capture content.
At the same time, cross-platform standards are establishing themselves, such as the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), developed in collaboration with Shopify. These interfaces allow autonomous systems to interact directly with shops and payment systems. Anyone who economises technically here is actively shutting out tomorrow’s customers.
The relaunch as a strategic investment
An upcoming website relaunch must therefore not be a purely cosmetic update. It is about building the overall system so that it creates maximum benefit for people and stays perfectly readable for AI models. Only those who serve both sides secure visibility and relevance in the long term.
Our freshly updated whitepaper gives you the right guide for setting up your digital infrastructure to be future-proof.
